Water Sector Training Needs Analysis

This sector flows from catchment through to treatment and involves many individuals and an extensive infrastructure.  Our brief in this work was to analyse the interest and need in the sector for qualifications and career pathways.

One memorable moment from this work was at the Airport Hotel in Wellington where using streamers and a small forest of post-it notes, a large group mapped out the whole system.  It was messy but also rewarding to see laid out for the first time the whole picture of the industry including all the roles, expertise required, typical entry points, and career pathway.  The Water Industry Training Organisation and a framework of industry qualifications was created out of this work.

Best Practice for Development - Ministry of Foreign Affairs

This project was designed to improve the quality of development assistance provided by New Zealand international development consultants and practitioners through targeted training and development. The work was completed over 2 years.

A hallmark of our work is that we take a systemic view. We involved the people concerned, using their wisdom gained from experience. Through interaction and participation, development practitioners, government and community agencies, tertiary educators, and foreign nationals generated solutions to dilemmas they identified.

The project resulted in a strategy called "Best Practice for Development" and lead to the establishment of NZAID.
